High rates of sales of apartments to foreigners in Turkey

Sales of residential apartments to foreigners in Turkey recorded a significant increase, during the month of April of this year, and at a time when Istanbul was at the forefront of the Turkish states, the Iranians maintained first place, among the most foreign nationalities who own real estate in Turkey.

Significant increase in sales of apartments to foreigners in Turkey

According to information issued by the Turkish Statistics Authority TÜİK, the sales of apartments to foreigners in Turkey during the month of April for this year, an increase of 416.1%, compared to the sales of real estate to foreigners in Turkey, during the same month of the previous year, as the number of apartments sold to foreigners reached 4077 apartments during the month of April 2021.

According to news published by the Turkish Ikhlas Agency, the spread of the Coronavirus has had a great impact in increasing the sales of apartments to foreigners, by preferring many foreign tourists to stay in their homes over staying in hotels, when they spend their holidays in Turkey during the summer.

Consequently, an increase in the number of apartments purchased by foreigners for their summer holidays has been observed in several cities of Turkey, mainly Istanbul, Antalya, Mersin, Ankara, and Bursa.

Istanbul is at the forefront of real estate sales

According to the information contained in the reports of the Turkish Statistics Authority (TÜİK): Istanbul province ranked first among the Turkish provinces that sold apartments the most, as the number of apartments sold to foreigners in Istanbul during the month of April of the current year 2009 reached apartments.

Antalya came in second place, where sales of apartments to foreigners reached 859 apartments in April of this year, followed by Ankara in third place, with the sale of 228 apartments sold to foreigners, and the first ten ranks were as follows:

Iranians keep the lead

In terms of the most foreign nationalities buying apartments in Turkey, during the month of April 2021, Iranians ranked first among the most foreign nationalities to buy apartments in Turkey, with 557 purchases.

The Iraqis followed them in second place with 546 apartments, and the Russians came in third place with 402 apartments, and the first twenty ranks were as follows:

Commenting on the sales figures, Mr. Erdal Salabi, Head of the Chamber of Real Estate Advisors and Traders, said:

"The interest of foreign investors in Turkey's real estate is increasing day by day. During the days of the pandemic, Turkey was a safe haven for many of these foreign investors".

Salabi continued, saying: “Even during the closure period due to the spread of the pandemic, we witnessed foreign purchases, by appointing people inside Turkey to complete the purchases, and here we are today witnessing sales figures that indicate that the negative impact of the pandemic has largely disappeared, and we hope to break Record numbers in the coming days".
