A New Line for Transporting Cars and Passengers between the Two Continents Asia and Europe

Istanbul Municipality has launched a first-of-its-kind service to transport passengers and cars by boats between the two districts (istiya) of the European side and (Çubuklu) of Asian side, as the Anatolia news agency reported.

The municipality has set up the plan to serve about 2 million cars and 2.5 million passengers annually. The transport time on this line for passengers will be from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm on weekdays that is according to the officials.

The boats transport’s route is expected to facilitate the movement of cars on the bridges connecting the two continents and the two Bosphorus Sides, where the transport will initially be piloted through two boats carrying passengers on the line.

The Ashan and Ergovan boats have been designed particularly to withstand the powerful waves coming from the Black Sea and have a powerful capacity to carry passengers and cars of different weights. Ashan will carry about 65 cars and 250 passengers, while Ergovan will carry about 65 vehicles with 434 passengers.

For its part, Istanbul’s Municipality announced that it aims through this new line to decrease the number of thousands of cars on the bridges of Istanbul and to alleviate the state of overcrowding on them, adding that it aspires to reduce carbon emissions and excessive fuel consumption.
