Erdogan Breaks Ground for “Istanbul Tersane ": Pearl of Tourism in the City of the Two Continents
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan laid the cornerstone of the "Istanbul Tersane" project on the Golden Horn bay on Saturday, 23/02/2019, and it includes various tourism, cultural and commercial facilities.
“Istanbul Tersane" will change the map of museums in the city
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Erdogan said the project will give Istanbul a very special position, with an area of 238,000 m2.
Erdogan explained that the Istanbul Tersane project includes two yachts with a capacity of 70 yachts, 3 5-star hotels with a total capacity of 1200 beds, as well as the establishment of 3 important museums.
He said that Sadberk Hanım Museum, currently in the Sariyer region, will be moved to the new project, as well as the establishment of the first woman museum in the country, as well as the Turkish Islamic Archaeological Museum.
A cultural center, gallery, theater hall, cinema, recreational facilities and a garage with a capacity of 5,700 cars will also be built.
30 million visitors in Istanbul Tersane
Istanbul Tersane would include offices, shops, and restaurants, In addition to a mosque that can accommodate 1,000 worshipers and a scientific center, the largest of its kind in Europe said President Erdogan.
He pointed out that the project is expected to attract about 30 million local and foreign visitors per year, and contribute to enhancing the revenues of the tourism sector.
He added that the completion of the “Istanbul Tersane" will take 3 years, but said that the first phase will be opened in November of this year 2019.
Halic, or the Golden Horn, is a marine extension of the Bosporus Strait, dividing the European part of the city of Istanbul into two parts.
