Turkey Inaugurates the Largest Container Port on the Aegean Sea
Turkey inaugurated the first phase of the largest container port on the Aegean Coast in the city of Izmir in the west of the country.
The capacity of the station will be about 800 thousand containers annually in the first phase, to be 1.5 million containers in the second phase, which is scheduled to be ready by 2017.
The cost of the project amounted to 400 million dollars; and Petkim Limanc?l?k Ticaret A.S Company and APM Terminals Company are working on the construction of this project.
The new station is planned to have 50% higher capacity than Alsancak Port, so it will be the largest container port on the Aegean coast in Turkey.
It is worth mentioning of course that Turkey has 10 other ports for large containers.
