Turkish Passport Visa-Free Countries 2026: Full List by Region

As of September 2026, the Turkish passport gives access to 112 destinations without a prior visa, counting visa-free entry, visa on arrival and electronic travel authorizations, which places it 49th on the Henley Passport Index. Turkish citizens can travel visa-free to countries such as Japan, Brazil, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and most of the Balkans, and can visit Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Northern Cyprus with just a national ID card. However, a visa is still required for the Schengen Area, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

How Many Countries Can Turkish Passport Holders Visit Without a Visa?

The number you see online depends on how "visa-free" is counted. The Henley Passport Index, the most widely cited ranking, counts destinations that Turkish citizens can enter without applying for a visa in advance. This includes full visa-free entry, visa on arrival and electronic travel authorizations (eTA), but not eVisas that require approval before departure.

Some websites quote higher figures because they also count eVisa countries. That is why you may find numbers ranging from about 110 to over 140 for the same passport.

In practice, destinations fall into five groups:

Entry type

What it means

Visa not required

You travel with a valid passport and stay up to the permitted period

Visa on arrival

You get the visa at the airport or border when you land

eTA

You register online before travel, but it is not a full visa

eVisa

You apply and pay online, and must be approved before departure

Visa required

You apply in advance at an embassy, consulate or visa center

Can Turkish Citizens Travel to Europe Without a Visa?

Only partly. Turkish citizens can visit most non-Schengen countries in the Balkans and Eastern Europe without a visa, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine.

For the 29 countries of the Schengen Area, however, a Schengen visa is required. These are 25 EU member states plus Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. A Schengen visa allows travel across all of them for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, but it does not cover every EU member: Ireland and the Republic of Cyprus apply their own visa rules.

When using a Schengen visa for the first time, you must enter the Schengen Area through the country that issued it. For example, a visa issued by Italy requires your first entry to be into Italy. It is therefore best to apply at the consulate of the country you plan to enter first.

Entry Requirements to Check Before You Travel

Even when no visa is required, border officers can refuse entry if other conditions are not met. Before booking, check:

  • Passport validity: many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months on arrival, including Hong Kong, Macao and Namibia. When applying for a visa, your passport should ideally be valid for at least one more year.
  • Passport age: Schengen countries do not accept visa applications with passports issued more than 10 years ago.
  • Passport condition: a worn or damaged passport can lead to refusal at the border, even with a valid visa.
  • Online arrival forms: Indonesia, Thailand, Cuba and Zimbabwe require digital arrival declarations before or on arrival.
  • Travel insurance: mandatory for Georgia since January 2026, and strongly recommended everywhere else.
  • Vaccinations: several African countries require a yellow fever vaccination certificate on arrival.

The rules above apply to single-entry tourist trips. For study, work, multiple-entry visas or long-term stays, contact the embassy of your destination country directly, as entry rules can change at short notice.

What the Turkish Passport Means for Citizenship by Investment Applicants

For foreign investors, the Turkish passport is one of the practical benefits of obtaining Turkish citizenship through real estate investment, which requires a property investment of at least USD 400,000 held for 3 years. Turkey allows dual citizenship, so you can keep your original nationality while adding the travel access of a Turkish passport.

The Turkish passport does not replace a Schengen, US or UK visa, but it opens visa-free or simplified entry to over 100 destinations across Asia, Latin America, the Balkans and the Gulf. For a deeper look at how the passport ranks globally, see our guide to Turkish passport power, and for the investment route itself, explore Turkish citizenship by investment.
