The name of the area is derived from the long stone belt built by the local residents around the mountain to protect their area from mountain floods. The city remained a small village until the early 1980s, but after this period, it began to develop thanks to the tourism facilities established there, turning into a town, and then, after becoming one of the most important tourist centers in Turkey, into a district.

The area of Kemer city is about 53 square kilometers, with forests covering more than 45,000 hectares of the region. The population of the district exceeds 40,000 people. The climate in Kemer is hot and dry in summer and mild and rainy in winter. The sea temperature in the area ranges from 10-12 degrees in winter and 27-29 degrees in summer, which means swimming is possible for eight months of the year.

The history of Kemer dates back to 690 BC, as an ancient city was discovered in the area from that time, the city of Phaselis, built by Emperor Ilyus I. Thanks to Kemer Marina and the long coastline of 52 kilometers, Kemer has earned the Green Flag from the European Environmental Organization.
