Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened the first phase of Istanbul airport on October 29, 2018, with the participation of more than 50 high-profile guests from around the world.

The opening of the new third airport in Istanbul coincided with the anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

Among the most prominent participants at the opening ceremony were a number of leaders, heads of state, heads of government and senior ministers around the world, including:
