Istanbul Airport Ranks First in Europe in Terms of Passenger Numbers

Istanbul International Airport topped the most crowded airports in Europe in 2021, with approximately 37 million passengers.

According to data by the International Airports Council (ACI), Istanbul Airport ranked first in Europe in terms of passenger numbers last year, with 36 million, 988,563 passengers.

According to reports published by ACI, passenger numbers at Istanbul Airport for 2021 increased by 37% compared to the previous year, with 2020 falling by 59% due to the global corona virus epidemic.

According to the report, airports in Turkey and Russia hosted the largest number of passengers in 2021, with Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport ranked second with 30 million, 943,456 passengers.

Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris ranked third with 26,201,698 passengers, while Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands came fourth, and Moscow's Domodedovo Airport came fifth.

Sabiha Gokcen and Antalya airports were also listed as the busiest airports in Europe; Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul ranked sixth in Europe with 24,991,000 passengers, while Antalya airport ranked ninth with 21,333,000 passengers.

Istanbul Airport also ranked first among European airports in the number of passengers in 2020, reaching 23.4 million despite the Corona Epidemic.
