Turkish Minister of Trade from Doha | Messages and Assurances for the Arab Investor

Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat confirmed during a press conference held in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Monday, the safety and stability of the investment environment in Turkey. He pointed out that his country does not discriminate or practice racism against foreigners, and that the Turkish market is open to all international investors from all over the world.

In response to a question from one of the journalists during the conference about the impact of recent violent incidents involving citizens of Arab nationalities in Turkey on the tourism sector and investors' concerns, the minister stated that Turkey has close historical and cultural ties with Arab countries, and that individual incidents exaggerated by social media will not affect those relations.

The Turkish Minister of Trade added that his government pays great attention to dealing with such issues, and that the judiciary and relevant security authorities in Turkey do not differentiate when dealing with foreigners and citizens. He stressed the Turkish government and people's keenness on the safety and comfort of tourists, Arab investors, and foreigners.

Bolat added that his country received more than 3 million Arab tourists during 2023, and all of them spent their time safely and happily in Turkey, and no one was harmed in any way, enjoying all the rights and privileges enjoyed by Turkish citizens.

The Turkish minister pointed out that racism in Turkey comes from a single well-known party, which did not receive 1.5% of the votes in the recent Turkish elections. Therefore, more than 98.5% of the Turkish people do not accept or approve of such practices at all.

On the other hand, Minister Bolat spoke about the volume of trade and investments between Turkey and various Arab countries, especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Kuwait, in addition to the volume of direct investments between Turkey and Arab countries. This, in turn, confirms the availability of a safe investment environment in Turkey across various sectors, away from the noise of social media that amplifies individual incidents which do not represent the general mood or state of the Turkish people.

It is worth mentioning that the press conference held by the Turkish Minister of Trade in Doha came on the sidelines of the minister's participation in the Qatar International Horticultural Expo "Expo Qatar 2023", in addition to the minister's work related to preparations for the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Doha in December of this year.
