The first international train passed using the Gebze -Halkali railway connecting two sides of Istanbul after it was inaugurated on March 12 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Gebze-Halkali Line: Local Presence and International Way
According to the Anadolu correspondent, the private railway of the Azeri railway made in Switzerland entered Turkey via Kapıkule in Edirne crossing in the border of Bulgaria on Thursday.
The private train, which will transport passengers between the capitals of Ankara and Baku, used the Gebze-Halkali line and then traveled via the Istanbul-Ankara railway to the capital.
He pointed out that the train will start from Ankara towards Baku through the Georgian capital Tbilisi, through the networks linking them.
The length of railways in the city of Istanbul only is 233 kilometers, after the activating the railway Gebze - Halkali.
Opening the line, Erdogan said: Gebze -Halkali railway with the Marmaray metro line running from the bottom of the Bosphorus Strait, connected to the rest of Istanbul's railway networks, is a contributing factor in easing congestion in the city.
Erdogan clarified that Gebze-Halkali railway Istanbul is part of the Beijing-London Silk Road.
