With the openness that the country is witnessing after the Coronavirus crisis, which coincides with the approach of summer, and people are planning a beautiful tourist vacation; apartment sales in Turkey increased in April of this year, recording advanced rates in the sales of new, non-new and mortgaged apartments compared to the sales of apartments for the previous month.
Apartment sales progress in April
According to statistical data issued by the Turkish Statistics Authority TÜİK, apartment sales in Turkey in April of this year amounted to 133,058 apartments, an increase of 38.8% compared to sales of apartments in the same month of last year.
The apartment sector in Turkey recorded 453,121 apartments sold during the first four months of this year, an increase of 26.2% over the sales of the same period last year.
Istanbul tops the list of cities in terms of sales
In the details of the statement, Istanbul ranked first among the Turkish states that sold apartments in April of this year, with 26,330 apartments sold, and 19.8% of the general sales of apartments throughout Turkey during the mentioned month.
The Turkish capital, Ankara, ranked second, with sales of 12,195 apartments, or 9.2% of public sales, followed by Izmir, with sales of 8,459 apartments, and 6.4% of general sales of apartments throughout Turkey in April 2022.

As for the states that sold the least apartments in Turkey in April of this year, the states of Ardahan and Hakkari were topped by the sale of 25 apartments, followed by the Bayburt state with the sale of 47 apartments.
Increase in apartment sales
In a related context, sales of new apartments in Turkey in April of this year amounted to 36,421 apartments, achieving an increase of 24.7% compared to sales of the same month last year 2021. The percentage of sales of new apartments reached 27.4% of the general sales of apartments in Turkey in April of this year.
Official statistics recorded the sale of 130,858 new apartments during the first four months of this year, an increase of 19.4% over the sales of the first four months of last year.
As for the non-new apartments, their sales in April of this year amounted to 96,637 apartments, achieving progress of 45% compared to sales of non-new apartments during the same month of the past year 2021, and a percentage of 72.6% of the general sales of apartments in Turkey in April of this year.
With regard to the percentage of sales of non-new apartments during the first three months of this year, the statistical figures recorded sales of 225,626 apartments, 23.5% ahead of sales of apartments of the same type during the same period last year.
Mortgage apartment sales
Regarding sales of mortgaged apartments, the number of mortgaged apartments sold in Turkey in April of this year reached 32,030 apartments, achieving an increase of 82.9% compared to sales of mortgaged apartments during the same month of the last year 2021, and the percentage of mortgaged apartments sold was 24.1 % of the total apartments sold in Turkey in April of this year.
The sales of mortgaged apartments also achieved an annual growth rate of 55.1% during the first four months of this year, with 100,372 mortgaged apartments sold.
While sales of non-mortgage apartments in April of this year amounted to 101,028 apartments, achieving an increase of 28.9% compared to sales of non-mortgage apartments during the same month of last year. The percentage of non-mortgaged apartments reached 75.9% of the total apartments sold in Turkey in April of this year.
In turn, non-mortgaged apartments achieved 352,749 sales during the first four months of this year, an increase of 19.9% over sales of the same period last year.
